  • Morrisons has opened its 500th convenience store as it announces a recovery in sales growth. Over the 13-week period to January 29 2023, the supermarket announced a 3.4% increase in total sales, with group like-for-like sales excluding fuel increasing by 0.1%. Its 500th Daily convenience store opened last week in Salford; after Morrisons’ acquisition of McColl’s in 2022, 350 former stores are now in operation as Morrisons Daily convenience stores.

  • Wine retailer Majestic has opened a new small-format store in Harpenden. The 1,800sq. ft. store is less than half the size of others as the brand tests ways to expand its reach. The new store, which will carry a curated range of wine based on sales data from Majestic’s other stores, is to be followed by eight more sites over the next year, including in Thame and Truro.

  • Asda is seeking to expand further in the UK with the help of CBRE. The grocery retailer currently operates 633 stores in the UK, and plans to open 300 more by the end of 2026. Adrian Hanley, UK retail director at CBRE, said: “Enhancing its store offering to include convenience stores on a national scale will further solidify Asda’s position as a leading supermarket… CBRE’s market-leading retail team and extensive network across the UK makes us perfectly placed to assist Asda in fulfilling the next step of their store strategy.”

  • Perfume retailer The Fragrance Shop to open a new 2,300sq.ft. experiential flagship on London’s Oxford Street. Set to open this summer, the Oxford Street flagship follows 12 openings in 2022 which brought The Fragrance Shop’s estate to 216 locations.
