Business Development Manager - retail

Local Data Company is looking for a Business Development Manager to join a growing Sales and Marketing Team. The BDM will take responsibility for generating new revenue in a specific sector, growing market share and signing contracts with new clients.

The job


  • Understand the market and key clients, and use this knowledge to build tailored solutions for prospects
  • Build specific market knowledge and be an expert in the field
  • Ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities
  • Discover potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging a network of contacts
  • Build relationships with new clients
  • Work with the Sales team to develop proposals that speak to clients’ needs, concerns, and objectives
  • Attend industry functions such as events and conferences and feedback to the team on market trends and news
  • Ensure clients’ data is accurately entered and managed within our customer relationship management system
  • Accurately forecast sales targets and ensure they are met




  • 2-5 years’ experience in a sales role in a single business
  • Degree-level educated
  • Experience in the retail planning or retail technology sectors
  • Experience selling licenced/renewable products



  • Ability to quickly penetrate a market sector, achieving consistent and growing sales
  • Ability to consistently increase the ASV of a product
  • Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in working with all levels from analysts to C-Suite
  • Technical competence (ability to learn how our software works etc.)
  • Excellent communication both written and verbal (including presentation skills)
  • Ability to create high-quality and impactful proposals
  • Ability to negotiate

  • Consultative Sales
  • Sales cycle: 3 to 6 months
  • Must want to network/prospect new business/logos and manage the relationships
  • Strong account management skills required as managing existing accounts will form approximately 30% of the role
