With only 2 working days to go, we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. As is tradition at LDC, we don't send Christmas cards out. Instead, we have opted to donate £500 to worthwhile charity Ambitious about Autism. We have chosen this charity as we want to help to fund the important work that it does to provide young people with autism with the support and resources they need to become a success in life.
Here's what Ambitious about Autism had to say about our donation:
“Ambitious about Autism is the national charity for children and young people with autism. We provide services, raise awareness and understanding, and campaign for change. We know that autism is a condition that affects every aspect of life so we aim to address all the challenges that children and young people with the condition face. Our youth participation and advocacy work, allows children and young adults with autism to have their voices heard and to influence the service and policy decisions that directly affect them. At our Treehouse School, we offer our sector leading educational services to 87 children and young people with autism and finally and we are now proud to announce that as of this September we have opened the country’s first dedicated, co-located Further Education institute for young adults with autism.
“The £500 donation received by LDC could be used to help fund any of these larger scale projects, or, equally, it could be used to purchase the day to day provisions that are needed to make the ordinary possible for our learners. £500 is the sum needed to purchase two weighted ‘Squeeze Vests’; specially developed wearable aids for children with special needs that provides a strong and reassuring squeezing sensation that help to calm our learners and help them to focus.”
We thank everyone for their support in what has been a great year for LDC, and we wish everyone a happy, healthy and successful 2017.
