While a manicure was once an indulgence for ladies who lunch, now nail bars are springing up faster than pound shops and convenience stores. They are one of the fastest growing businesses on the high street, at 16.5 per cent of new outlets in the past three years.

What happened to all the Woolworths shops?

Three years ago Woolworths pulled the shutters down on the last of its 807 shops, ending 100 years of history and putting 30,000 out of a job. While 105 of the shops are still vacant and 68 have been demolished, the rest have been taken by a variety of retailers.

Most former Woolworths stores re-let

The majority of stores once belonging to defunct retailer Woolworths have now been re-let, according to research. Just over three years after the High Street giant's demise, 703 of its 807 stores - 87% - are re-occupied, said a report by the Local Data Company (LDC).

Over 100 Woolworths' stores still vacant

Some 13% of Woolworths’ 815 high street stores are still vacant, three years after the discount retailer collapsed into administration. Research by the Local Data Company has found that 38% of these vacant Woolies stores are in Northern Ireland, 26% are in the North East of England,19% are in Scotland and 18% are in East of England.

Wolverhampton Woolworths still vacant after three years

The former Woolworths store in Wolverhampton is one of more than 100 still lying vacant three years after the collapse of the high street retailer. The branch in Dudley Street has been empty since the national chain went under in January 2009 – while 14 other stores in the region have been re-let to new businesses.
