Debt1 - Incomes to be 'squeezed' again in 2010

More consumers could be engaging in debt management in a bid to stay afloat financially in 2010. According to Richard Perks, director of retail research for Mintel, people are in for a tough time this year, and doubts that things will start to pick up again. "I think most consumers assume there are pretty tough times ahead. It's very obvious we are going to have rising taxes and interest rates, and that is really going to topple consumers," he said. Coventry Telegraph - Leamington empty shops 'trebled in 2009'

The number of empty shops in Leamington more than trebled last year. A survey of more than 700 town centres across the UK showed the Warwickshire shopping venue to have 14.5 per cent of its premises lying vacant in December 2009. Ealing Gazette - Ealing fights to fill vacant shops

One in ten shops in Ealing Town Centre stood empty in December 2009, an increase of 50per cent in comparison to the year before. According to a report published by the Local Data Company (LDC) there were 425 shops in the town centre with 10.18per cent of those standing vacant at the end of last year. And in December 2008, the number stood at 5.25per cent, showing the number of empty shops nearly doubled in the course of a year. Read full article
